The Keysight 86105A has two measurement channels: an optical channel and an electrical channel. Each channel has two bandwidth settings to choose from. In the low bandwidth mode of 12.4 GHz, the oscilloscope has extremely good noise performance; in the 20 GHz mode, the oscilloscope can provide higher fidelity for high-speed signals. The optical channel also has a switchable filter to form a calibrated SDH/SONET reference receiver. The integrated optical channel eliminates the signal-distorting cables and connectors required when using an external receiver, and can accurately characterize the optical waveform, thereby reducing the variation of mismatch loss. This optical channel is calibrated at wavelengths of 1310 nm and 1550 nm, and can accurately display the optical waveform received in the optical power unit and the average power measurement of the signal. Keysight provides switchable filters that support compliance testing at rates of 155, 622, 2488 or 9953 Mb/s.
The electrical measurement channel can be used to measure branch electrical signals, evaluate receiver performance in transceiver testing, measurements using Keysight's various external optical receivers, and other general-purpose measurements.
